A Message From the Owner, Kathy Z

Thank you for trying our salon. I realize you have many choices of which salon to do business with, and I'm excited you chose ours. Upon entering and leaving Hair Unique I most likely am the first and last person you'll see. As the proprietor I add a personal touch between my staff and clients.

My goal is to reassure clients they are being served by the best the industry can assemble in this region. Our collective goal is to create an experience that you'll look forward to repeating time and time again, thus recommending us to friends and family.

I have been at Hair Unique for 12 years and currently serving as Manager. I graduated from the New London Hairdressing Academy. I have taken numerous Goldwell Color classes. I enjoy the creativity of hair design and making people feel good about themselves.

Hi, I’m Jean, I have been a hairstylist in the Mystic, Groton and Norwich areas for the past thirty seven years. I have now been working at Hair Unique for twenty six of those years since the day the door’s opened to the shop. My speciality with hair has always been precision hair-cutting and styling. As a New London Academy of Hairdressing graduate, I took my first job and have been in the hair business for 26 years. I have attended many haircutting, up-styling, coloring and motivational education events throughout my fantastic career as a stylist. The Goldwell education I have received has been the most rewarding. My favorite service is root retouch. There is a great reward seeing the smile on my patrons face when they leave my chair with “no more roots”!

I have been a hair stylist for many years and enjoy all aspects of hairdressing, including cutting, coloring, foiling and perming. My true passion is doing “Fancy Hair” for weddings, proms and special occasions. I love doing bridal parties and am available on Sunday as well. My hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday 9-5 and Saturday 8-3. Looking forward to meeting you!

I do hair extensions and BioIonic retexturizing and they are my specialty services. I also do any of the other services that are offered at the Salon I can do and I will try anything new and try anything at least once.

Being a hairdresser has always been my lifelong dream. After completing hairdressing school I owned and operated “Laura’s Hair Salon”, in Groton, Connecticut for seven and half years. Wanting to spend more time with my children I sold the salon and joined the team at “Hair Unique”. Now in my fifteenth year here, Kathy keeps us up to date with all the latest colors, styles, and trends. I can’t imagine working anywhere else. I also guarantee my haircuts for one full week.

I enjoy doing the hair of men, women and children of all ages. Eric is well known for his very outgoing personality and sense of humor. I have been at Hair Unique for thirteen years having taken Goldwell and Paul Mitchell classes for coloring, haircuts and foiling. Eric is always willing to come in early and accommodates his customers.

Creating a hair style to make you look your personal best is my top priority. I have many years of experience and enjoy hair coloring, styling, cutting and perming both women and men’s hair. Hi, I’m Carla, I have been a hair stylist for over eighteen years and have previously owned my own business in Florida. I am very competent with color and love the challenge of corrective color. I have attended many Goldwell classes, and am also certified to do hair extensions.

Having graduated from the New London Academy of Hairdressing in 1989, with 23 years of experience. Sean has been a stylist at Hair Unique II for the past 13 years. Specializing in cuts, coloring, foil highlighting and corrective color, he has an artistic vision with impeccable attention to detail. Sean styles both men and women and enjoys working with his clients to create styles that fit their individual needs. His personal goal is to help every client find a style that is a true fit for their hair type, and one that the client can easily replicate at home. As a master of his craft, Sean keeps up with the latest techniques pushing the boundaries of hair. Whether you want a contemporary, classic, or funky style, you are sure to be pleased with the experience you have working with Sean. Sean always strives to create an environment where clients are at ease when expressing their own ideas. His number one goal is for clients to be confident and satisfied with their hairstyles when they exit the salon. Clients often comment on his attention to the fine detail work in the finished style of their haircuts. Sean believes in, “Making your hair your best accessory”.

Hi, I’m Tammy Caswell, I have lived in the New London County all my life. I followed in my mother’s footsteps going into the hair styling business and have done so for the past twelve years. Much training with Paul Mitchell and Goldwell cutting, color, styling, retail etc. in hopes of eventually becoming an educator of same. I am certified in hair extensions and newly eyelash extensions. I will go over and above board for my guests. My favorite thing I like to do is dimensional coloring.

I have been at Hair Unique for 2 ½ years and enjoy every minute of it. I graduated from the Brio Academy of Cosmetology with a focus on color. I have also taken color classes through Goldwell and styling classes with Paul Mitchell. I am constantly keeping up with new styles and trends and love making my clients feel great about themselves. I have over ten years of beauty experience. I specialize in makeup as well as color and updos. I love being able to teach the simple things to make people feel good about themselves. I have traveled to Goldwell hair shows in Paris and Las Vegas.

Amy

Joan Balestracci is one of the Receptionists. She has worked in the professional field in Administration, Legal capacity and technical for over 55 years. She was Volunteer of The Year for Northeast Utilities for two consecutive years. She has produced and starred in local theater in the area. She either is overseeing or participating in numerous charity and community activities every year. She is a member of the St. Patrick’s choir, Regent of the Daughters of Isabellla, Moderator at the voting polls and is on the Secretary’s Mass Committee. She enjoys cooking, gardening, an avid reader, calligrapher, crossword puzzles and golfing. She loves to play sports as well as keep track of the UConn Girl’s Basketball team and the Boston Red Sox. She says she is never quitting work, she likes to interact with the people and just loves the fact that she has found a niche in the family friendly environment at Hair Unique.
